Greetings From Paragon City

November 5th, 2004

In the past couple of months, I’ve been spending entirely too much time with the online role-playing City of Heroes. Its players can create a nigh-infinite array of superheroes to combat the endless villainous hordes that plague Paragon City.

You can see a number of screenshots from my adventures here. My primary character is a mystical bombshell named Ms. Mesmer (though, oddly, she does not have the Mesmerize power). She’s reached level 21, out of a possible 50. I’ve currently got seven characters on the Victory server, though I mainly play with the four you’ll see.

It’s a very addictive game, and thankfully, does not feature any of the “crafting” that plagues other role-playing games. I know that some people like that sort of thing, but I found it irritating that when I played Star Wars Galaxies, I spent the vast majority of my time harvesting resources, not smuggling spice or saving princesses. With City of Heroes, you’re a superhero from Day One.
