Fun With Cartography

August 25th, 2008 No comments

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been working on a (still forthcoming) Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Over in the left hand menu bar on this page, there’s a button labeled “Verdant Vale” that takes you to the campaign’s wiki page.

Anyhow, last night I finished the map of the town of Boswin, which will be home base for my group of adventurers. I did it in Paint Shop Pro, drawing a variety of different buildings freehand, then copying/pasting/resizing over and over to create a thriving community. I thought that it turned out pretty well!

Now, I have to get around to giving proper names to some of the locations on the map. “Temple” just ain’t gonna cut it.

Putting On The Dog

I’ve just updated my WILL-TV blog with a story about my stint last Saturday inside an inflatable dog suit.

Bloggus Interruptus

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m currently in Palm Springs (actually Palm Desert), California for a public TV conference. The photo at left is the view from the balcony of my hotel room. As you can see, it’s quite nice here, though I’ve yet to have an opportunity to try out the pool.

I’d hoped to post some stuff here in my off hours, but it just doesn’t look like that’s going to work out. And Thursday I drive a rental car to Los Angeles to meet Vic and take a few days’ vacation. I’ll be visiting my old stomping grounds in Hollywood, and going to Disneyland for the first time in too many years. The downside is that I’ll be completely offline from then until next Tuesday.

However, if you’re interested, through Thursday morning I’ll be blogging about the PBS conference for the WILL-TV web site. Click the “TV Worth Blogging” image in the left-hard bar to read about upcoming public TV programs.

I’ll be back next week with more pointless, self-serving posts. (And don’t think I’ve given up on my fixation with Latitude Zero!)

Welcome To My Domain

April 24th, 2008 No comments

For no good reason outside of sheer vanity, I’ve registered a domain name for this site. Welcome to thielavision.com!

Any old bookmarks will still work, as the thielavision.com address redirects to the same place. But at least I can tell people about my site without having to spell “slithytoves” or explain what a tilda mark is.

I’d thought about being thielavision.org, as .org domains were on sale. But I don’t really feel like an organization. I don’t feel like a .com either, but .name is just .lame.

Oddly enough, someone is cybersquatting on davidthiel.com, perhaps in hopes that I (or, more likely, David Thiel the DIY guy or David Thiel the videogame designer) will pony up some cash for it.

A Blogging Fool

February 14th, 2008 No comments

I’m blogging left, right and center these days. I was recently asked to contribute a blog about public TV programming for the WILL-TV website, and it should be going live today.

In addition, I’m contributing to an industry website called Public Media Digest. That one’s only fully accessible to registered members of the public broadcasting community, however.
